Math:

Please continue to practice bar modeling at home. Mental math (MM) can be found toward the back of the Home Instructor Guide. You should spend no longer than 10 minutes on MM; students do not need to complete the entire exercise.

Grammar:

Some of the definitions in Chapter 2 lesson 2; Practice Time; may seem a little abstract for now. Reminding your student of the Shurley jingle that matches the definition may help. You will not be doing any Shurley vocabulary at home for the remainder of the year as we will be focusing on IEW vocabulary.

Composition:

Students will complete their first rough draft of the year. They may use up to 3 vocabulary words from lesson 3. Each vocabulary word from lesson 3 is worth 1 extra credit point.

Continue to practice proper formation of cursive letters at home. Writing on notebook paper, rather than handwriting paper is new for some students this year. Please help your student with this transition.

Reading:

Students will be doing written narrations in class this week and will continue to do so in the classroom through October, when we will transition to doing them at home. All in-class narrations can be found in the “reading” section of your child’s campus binder and can be used as a reference. We will use a different format for grading narrations than in years past and more information will be given soon. Here is our tentative book schedule for the remainder of the year:

August 21st- September 8th Classical book - free choice*
September 11th-29th- Squanto
October 2nd-13th- The Courage of Sarah Noble
October 17th-27th-George vs. George

Memory:
