Math:

This week we are going to study number patterns and rounding.  Rounding can be difficult for some kids to get the concept down.  Practice with the activities throughout the lessons.

Remember to complete the addition math fact page everyday.

Grammar:
In grammar this year, we will discuss synonyms and antonyms when creating our improved sentences, but we will not be doing the vocabulary in the Shurley Grammar.  On all tests, the vocabulary synonym and antonym section will be omitted.  Vocabulary will be done through IEW.

Composition:
If your child is having trouble with the oral retell they may need to look back at what three words they are picking and may need help with this process.  Oral re-tell of KWO can be done with parents, siblings, animals, friends, grandparents, stuffed animals, etc.  Remember to have your child look at their KWO and then look up to speak.  We want to make sure that they are not speaking into their book.
We introduce Lesson 2 vocabulary words this week.  Students will be quizzed periodically on vocab words. All quizzes will be cumulative. Be sure to review words at home.

Reading:
Finish reading "The Hundred Dresses" this week and finish the reading story map.  The story map will be turned in on Monday.

History:
We will be learning 12 key dates during the year.  We will be leaning 3 dates a quarter.  At the end of the quarter there will be a quiz.  The quiz will be accumulative as the year progresses.  The dates are listed in the campus binder under the science and history tab.

Quarter 1 dates
Charles V 15194
William the silent and a Dutch revolution 1582
Jamestown Colony Founded 1607

Memory:

Please spend time during your school day to work on our school wide scripture, Quarter 1 poem, geography map & song, and key dates. Feel free to get creative and practice these in the car, at bedtime, or during meals.
